Day 10

 Saturday May 4

No breakfast for us this morning - it would have cost an extra £17.50, and no way could we do justice to that amount of food. An egg sandwich was plenty.

Another warm sunny day, some haze today though. We arrived at Uig  terminal a little early but only had ten minutes or so before the ticket man arrived and we could park. The place is still in the throes of building, machinery, cones, concrete,  rubble etc everywhere. Like last year but with some differences e.g a separate lane for the vehicles driving off, from those driving on.

We sat outside on the bottom deck throughout the hour and three quarters trip. I didn't zip up my coat nor put gloves on until we were nearing Lochmaddy. The calmest crossing ever. As usual. most of the birds seen were off the coast of Skye. In groups of no more than four, the majority were Puffins, easily outnumbering the combined total of Guillemots and Razorbills. A few Gannets and Greater Black-backed Gulls were the only other species seen. But I did hear a Cuckoo before we left the Hotel this morning.

We were late off the ferry because the lift was locked and the attendant couldn't make it work. So good to be back here again.

Heather met us, walking using a cane, she's had her knee done at last. Soon joined by husband Ian and daughter Fiona. Ian and Fiona then carried everything in from the car. We have been so well looked after. Ian could also advise what to do about the chipped windscreen we got from a flying stone on Skye. A Monday job.

Rabbits nibbling the lawn, Willow Warbler singing from the Willows. we're 'home'.
