Day 8
Thursday May 2
Another much needed restful day, before our drive to Skye tomorrow. Our third abortive trip to Lochindorb, still no Black-throated Diver, before a pleasant couple of hours at Burghead.
A virtually cloudless day, 17C max, it was a pleasure to sea watch. Not that we saw much of any note, I love seabirds. A lone juvenile Little Gull was the highlight, making its dipping feeding flight in front of us. Eiders, Guillemots, Shags, Gannets, Common Scoter and two Turnstones, Long-tailed Ducks and a flitting Rock Pipit.
Pam decided to drive home along the seashore towards the Maltings. Good choice. Many of the large flock of Knot were still resting on the shore. Where to start?
Two Hooded Crows near the Maltings were definitely of better parentage than the previous ones.
Ordies Farm is surrounded by sown fields. Carrots on one side, small green shoots have shot up over the last few warm days. The others have organic barley, grown for the whisky distilleries, all the farmers grow that, so that they can get the most advantitious price.
This cottage has been as good as we could wish for away from home. I would not hesitate to stay here again.
